Mill Creek, a station on the Pennsylvania railroad six miles east of Huntingdon, was laid out in October, 1848, by James Simpson for David Zook & Company. It takes its name from the stream upon which it is situated. The first stores in this locality were opened at Wilson's Mills about 1828. Mill Creek was incorporated as a borough on December 13, 1905, with I. N. Foust as chief burgess. John W. Mill Creek borough's first photograph on this site is of its United Methodist church. The date stone reads MEC 1852, which the photographer takes to stand for Methodist Episcopal Church, and says so as a supposition rather than a fact. The steeple, he notes, is a fairly modern addition. Both of those hedges are his and both are kept here.
From the newspaper the county was reading at the time, on Mill Creek borough. The Huntingdon Journal of 11 January 1871 carried this item in its column of local news. It is printed below exactly as the page reads, including the spelling of the day and the errors the scanner made: the paper's compositor set "traiu" for train and the scanner has read "debrie" for debris. Nothing has been rewritten, summarised or added to.
On Saturday last, owing to the breaking of axle, a traiu of stock freight cars was thrown from the track at Mill Creek and some eighteen cars de stroyed.
