Ganister Hill and the new Americans
A 1922 advertisement for the Stoianoff Brothers of Mount Union, printed in Naroden Glas, the Bulgarian-Macedonian newspaper in America. Families from Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, and Russia filled the hundred company houses on Ganister Hill, often boarding five to ten single countrymen at a time while they worked the brickyards. Their names are still on mailboxes all over this valley.
